Arid areas under almost constant plant stress and with little plant growth.
Sub-Biomes:
Barren Desolate Desert: Harshest of deserts, where little grows, with areas of rock and sand dunes. (e.g., Atacama)
Hot Desert: Tropical/subtropical deserts with hot summers and cool or warm winters. Example: Palearctic Hot Desert (e.g., Simpson)
Cold Desert: Temperate deserts with hot/warm summers and cold winters. Example: Palearctic East Asian Cold Desert (e.g., Gobi)
